O. J. : Sanity Triumphs

In the eternal battle between greed and sanity, sanity won in the nick of time. When O. J. Simpson went public with his pseudo-confession If I Did It, the vast majority of Americans old enough to recall his trial reacted with predictable disgust. The public outcry against Simpson was loud and long. Even those who once cheered at his earlier vindication were united in their disgust at a man who could brag that he would do anything for a buck. In this case, Simpson was promised three and a half million of them, all of which is now in abeyance with the news yesterday that Fox had cancelled both the scheduled television interview and publication of his book. And where does this leave Simpson? Probably in the same level of purgatory in which he has resided since the day he took off in his white Bronco to leave the comfortable world of the successful Black athlete to take up new residence in the much more daunting universe reserved for those who once commanded respect but now receive only loathing.
